Ever since its introduction, Web3 gaming has been capturing hearts and attention spans across the globe. But which countries are really leading the Web3 gaming adoption? According to CoinGecko’s research, nine countries stood at the forefront of Web3 gaming, displaying consistent enthusiasm for this revolutionary trend. These include the Philippines, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, Vietnam, South Korea, Hong Kong, China, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Their consistent presence in the top 15 of the most-searched Web3 gaming-related terms signifies the deep-rooted impact of this novel gaming trend.
Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam, has been an undeniable powerhouse in this realm, with a marked dominance in the top 15 global rankings over the years. Back in 2021, five countries from this vibrant region made their mark among the top 15, with Indonesia sharing the spotlight with India from South Asia at rank 15.
The following year, the influence of Southeast Asia grew stronger, adding two more countries to the list. However, 2023 saw only the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam consistently shining in the top 15, proving their unyielding enthusiasm for Web3 gaming.
Shifting our gaze to East Asia, South Korea, Hong Kong, and China have been quite consistent in maintaining their positions as the countries most captivated by Web3 gaming. The rest of the region, however, has remained off the top 15 grid.
Over in South Asia, the interest in Web3 gaming has been more of a roller coaster ride. Initially, three countries from the region made it to the top 15 in 2021, only to drop to one the following year. But 2023 saw a remarkable resurgence, with four countries making the list. Pakistan stood out, showcasing an unwavering interest in Web3 gaming throughout these years.
Fast forward to 2023, and the Philippines remains the top dog, holding its place as the nation most interested in Web3 gaming for three years running. Hot on its heels are Nigeria, Pakistan, and Singapore, all showing commendable progress in their rankings.
Meanwhile, South Korea leapfrogged its East Asian neighbors Hong Kong and China, clinching the 6th spot and reflecting a steady growth in interest over the years. On the other end of the spectrum, Vietnam, China, and the UAE saw their rankings dip due to a decline in search interest.
Europe also joined the party in 2023, with the Netherlands leading the way as the only European nation in the top 15. This achievement came after search interest in the nation more than doubled compared to the previous two years.
Four new contenders also emerged in 2023, with Kenya, Lebanon, and Sri Lanka making their debut in the top 15, along with the Netherlands. They even outperformed the UAE, a regular feature in the top 15 for three consecutive years.
In South Asia, both Nepal and India made a comeback in the top 15 rankings after a brief hiatus the previous year.
Reflecting on the flux of interest in Web3 gaming, only four countries saw consistent year-on-year growth from 2021 to 2023, namely Pakistan, South Korea, Kenya, and Sri Lanka. On the contrary, Singapore, China, Thailand, and Venezuela saw a decline in interest, leading to Thailand and Venezuela falling out of the top 15 in 2023 and 2021 respectively.
Six nations witnessed a drop in interest from 2021 to 2022, mirroring the shift from a bullish to a bearish market. However, they made a promising recovery in 2023, with the Netherlands, Lebanon, Nepal, and India surpassing their 2021 interest levels, while Australia bounced back to its original level.
However, not all countries rode the recovery wave. The Philippines, a hotbed for Web3 gaming, experienced only a slight recovery in interest in 2023, falling short of its standout performance in 2021.
Nine countries that had shown increased interest in Web3 gaming in 2022, despite the bear market, unfortunately, didn’t maintain the same level of engagement in 2023. Among these, Russia, Laos, and Malaysia were notable for breaking into the top 15 rankings in 2022, only to lose their spots in 2023.
This global snapshot of Web3 gaming interest highlights how this revolutionary trend is playing out differently across the world. Regardless of the ups and downs, one thing is clear: Web3 gaming is here to stay, and it’s shaping the future of the gaming industry one country at a time.
